David Potter grew up in the old Southern California wine region of Rancho Cucamonga. After studying Business Economics and Global Studies at U.C. Santa Barbara, Dave completed postgraduate education in Oenology and Viticulture at Curtin University of Technology in Margaret River, Western Australia.
Dave has worked at a number of world class wineries in two hemispheres and three countries, both in large-scale commercial operations and small ultra-premium settings. He has a passion for Rhone varietal wines and has worked with some of the best fruit in the world in Australia’s Barossa Valley (Henschke Cellars) Santa Barbara County (Fess Parker, Epiphany, Sunstone), Victoria Australia (Fosters Wine Estates) and and just outside of Chateauneuf du Pape (Chateau de Montfaucon). Other experiences include those in Santa Cruz (Byington Winery) and Margaret River, Australia (Palandri Wines). Currently, Dave is Director of Winemaking Operations for Fess Parker’s Santa Barbara County Wine center — a 150,000 case production facility in Santa Maria. He is also producing and marketing 600 cases a year of Municipal Winemakers product.
Dave is passionate about quality winemaking and has traveled extensively to learn about techniques and terroir. He aspires to craft wines of the highest quality, that are widely appreciated, and commercially successful.
