Making wine from Sanford and Benedict is a privilege.
The fruit for this wine is from the original 1971 own-rooted plantings - the genesis of Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. This vineyard has been tended from the beginning with much love and care. When this happens, vines of this age produce wines of amazing complexity and striking purity.
2013 was an early, warm vintage, with a generous crop, but the wines, in general have such a harmony of both crispy fresh acid, and generous, juicy fruit.
This is a taught, crunchy pinot that shows its cool climate near the ocean on Santa Rosa Road. This wine has an energy, and life that is hard to describe, and even harder to find: the result of the confluence of a special site, vine age, and kind vintage.
Our S&B Pinot is violet, spring flowers, sappy underbrush and plum and darker berry-styled fruits. It’s juicy and fresh on the palate, with outstanding purity and concentration.
